*Raqs Sharqi For a Friday Night

Serpentessa’s Temple

belly dance class
makes me laugh, makes
me cry. Makes me laugh
hard from a deep place, hidden
retreat opening to light.
Light seeping fast
between deep fissures of pain,
thick caulked with grief,
rage, tempting the tangled tail
end of laughter. Hidden
retreat, now opening
out, out,
out.  Spiral
unwinding inside
me, inside out–both
blooming and drawn close
into the navel of the world.

–Maura Alia

*raqs sharki = Arabic for belly dance

Thank you! I knew you’d see it; the funny thing is it just evolved into that as I edited it. :)

    I love this post!
You know, I used to belly dance professionally and I found that it was more about my soul than anything else. I’m gonna tag you in something that will kinda make it clear. I would love to take a dance class with you.
